With great success and wide participation, the educational seminar “Weaving as a Tool for Development – Entrepreneurial Skills and Contemporary Design” was held on June 21, 2025. The event was organized by the Branding Heritage (BH) Cultural Organization at the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation, as part of the project “The Weavers of Greece”, under the auspices and with the support of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
More than 80 women and men weavers from Attica and other regions of Greece attended the seminar and followed the speakers’ insightful presentations (see program), which addressed a range of topics including circular economy, sustainable fashion and the environment, the use of innovative materials and textiles, the development of entrepreneurial skills, and the creation of a contemporary brand. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of craftsmanship within the international fashion landscape, highlighting the global trend that positions handicraft as a creative tool for a new generation of designers, as well as the opportunities emerging for the contemporary application of weaving.
An exhibition of Branding Heritage collections was also presented at the Latsis Foundation venue, featuring woven garments, mosaics, contemporary creations, as well as works by children (BH Kids) inspired by Greece’s weaving tradition.
At the same time, visitors were invited to take part in an interactive weaving performance: each participant added their own thread to the warp of a metal circle, collectively creating a unique, shared textile artwork.
