SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
The myth of Ariadne, daughter of Minos (King of Crete) and Pasiphae, who helped Theseus out of the labyrinth by giving him the “mitos” (a ball of thread) frequently serves as inspiration for contemporary artists. In the photo: terracotta amphora (ca. 500 BC) depicting Ariadne, Theseus and the Minotaur. Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (MET).
