SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
The Minotaur was the son of Pasiphae, the wife of the king of Crete. According to legend, the queen, daughter of sun God Helios, brought him into the world by mating with a white bull, sent by Poseidon. King Minos imprisoned him in a maze-like underground shelter, a labyrinth designed by Daedalus. His real name was Asterion or Asterios. Theseus, son of King Aegeus of Athens, killed the beast with the help of Ariadne, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae. The sculpture (photo) of the Minotaur found in Plaka is exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum.
