SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
The Mythical Minotaur was the son of Pasiphae, the wife of the king of Crete, Minos. According to the legend, the queen, daughter of sun-god Helios, brought him into the world by mating with a white bull, sent by Poseidon. King Minos imprisoned him in a maze-like underground shelter, a labyrinth designed by Daedalus. His real name was Asterion or Asterios. Theseus, son of the king of Athens Aegeus, killed the beast with the help of Ariadne, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae. The sculpture (photo) of the Minotaur found in Plaka is on display at the National Archaeological Museum.
